Livia Lancelot overcame misfortune to retain the leadership of the FIM World WMX Women’s Motocross Championship after finishing second in her home GP at Saint Jean D’Angely in western France.

The Team One One Four Kawasaki owner-rider was confident of success in front of her home country fans after posting fast times in practice but the opening moto on Saturday evening quickly became a torture as a stone jammed her front brake mechanism just a few corners into the race and she frustratingly had to follow the two leaders as she came to terms with the handicap.

Forced to find new lines she was never quite able to make the pass and then disaster struck three laps from the finish when a lapped rider cut across her path and, unable to brake effectively, she crashed and lost a position to finish fourth. In the second race on Sunday morning Livia quickly moved to second place and four laps from the end of the race she took the lead despite stiff resistance from her closest rival in the championship. Livia now leads the series by seven points with three rounds remaining.
