Kemea Yamaha Official MX rider Benoit Paturel finished 6th on Sunday at Pietramurata, fighting rocks, mud and his goggles at the MXGP of Trentino. Teammate Brent Van doninck recovered from low qualifying results on Saturday to a Top-10 in the first moto, while Wilvo Standing Construct Yamaha riders Alvin Östlund and Aleksandr Tonkov both gained points in the FIM World Championship standings.

Paturel qualified 39th on Saturday but recovered from the enormous disadvantage on Sunday to finish 12th in the first moto and 5th in the second. The French rider also found trouble when the detachable plastic film dispenser on his goggles broke late in the second moto and left him with muddy vision for the final three laps.

Van doninck also qualified low on Saturday, and like his teammate also recovered strongly in Sunday’s first moto to finish 10th on the hard and slick Pietramurata track, finding lines to pass slower riders. The Belgian rider, who came back strong in Latvia after hip surgery in April, was not as quick in the second moto, and finished out of the points.

Wilvo Standing Construct Yamaha rider Aleksandr Tonkov held a steady line every lap in the first moto to finish 7th, but struggled to find his rhythm in the second moto and crashed with three laps to go, falling from 7th to 11th position to end the day in 8th overall. Teammate Alvin Östlund was especially active at the end of each race, gaining two spots in the final laps of moto one to finish 11th and then taking three positions in the second half of moto two.

Overall Paturel now sits in 5th in the 2016 FIM World Championship rankings, one point ahead of Tonkov in 6th. Van doninck is 11th, 12 points ahead of Östlund in 12th as all four riders will take next weekend off from a busy May race schedule before returning in two weeks at Talavera in Spain.

In EMX125 race action, DP19 Official Yamaha MX Team rider Roan Van De Moosdijk finished 5th on Saturday and 7th on Sunday for 5th overall at Trentino. Zachary Pichon from Yamaha MCJ finished 12th overall after a very good 6th place on Saturday and a DNF with technical issues on Sunday.
