Abrupt End to a Difficult Weekend for Pata Yamaha at Assen

Pata Yamaha Official STK1000’s pole sitter Riccardo Russo put up a strong challenge in this afternoon’s race despite numerous interruptions due to red flags and unfavourable track conditions. Unfortunately the Italian rider was unable to finish the shortened 9-lap contest, falling at turn 12 on the fifth lap from second position.

Russo was immediately taken to the circuit’s medical centre where he underwent checks and X-rays on his right leg. The 23-year-old has been diagnosed with a fracture to his right tibia and was transferred to the Wilhelmina Ziekenhuis Assen (Assen hospital) for further medical intervention.

Florian Marino underwent surgery to his right leg late last night after yesterday’s qualifying accident, which resulted in fractures to his pelvis, femur, tibia and fibula. The Frenchman is recovering at the Wilhelmina Ziekenhuis Assen (Assen hospital) and will look to return home to France later in the week.
